Birding-Aus-ers might be interested to know that a sighting of Eurasian Curlew (Numenius arquata) in Australia has been accepted by BARC (Birds Australia Rarities Committee). The sighting was submitted to BARC by Chris Hassell and relates to a sighting at Broome (Western Australia) on 26 Nov 2007 and is accepted as the first confirmed sighting in Australia of that species.

Details of the case summary can be seen by going to the BARC web-site hosted by Tony Palliser at
http://users.bigpond.net.au/palliser/barc/barc-home.html

Go to the page "Index of Case Summaries Volume 7" and look at Case 545.

A photo of the bird is on Page 1 of the "Rarity Photographs" section of the BARC web-site.
Now I know what to really look for.

Congratulations Chris. That should give Eastern Australian birders an incentive.

Cheers
