Feel welcome to post your notes Tony.

There aren't too many species that regularly turn up in Australia that you would confuse with an Oriental Plover if you had a good look at it. Did the bird have a clear white eyebrow and a white throat, was it a very plainly plumaged and did it have reddish-brown legs?

The species you need to rule out are Golden Plovers, Grey Plovers and Greater Sand Plovers.

Regards, Laurie.

Hi all. I'm no wader expert, barely a novice so take this whatever quantity of salt required. Really I'd like to know if anyone knowledgeable has spotted an Oriental Plover at the Wynnum bird hide because that's what it looked like to my. My scope is cheap and not set for photos so I have nothing but my notes to go on but it looked good for Oriental or Caspian to me (Oriental being more likely of course) but I'd love some confirmation.

Cheers Tony
