I believe the original email requested info on Olive Whistlers for the
Southern Highlands region of NSW. I don't have any specific info myself
relating to this area but can say from my own observations that Olive
Whistlers are quite common further south and all the way down the dividing
range to Victoria.
I have seen (or at least heard) them over the last few years near the
summit of Mt Budawang in the Budawang Range, all along the escarpment
around Brown Mountain, around the Monga area near Bateman's Bay, in Ben
Boyd NP and Boyd SF on the far south coast, along the ridgelines of the
Tallaganda-Gourock Range and in the upper reaches of Namadgi NP in the ACT
around Ginini Flats. Odd birds have been reported in the colder months in
parts of Canberra. I also have two old (probable) records from the Tinderry
Range and on Mt Kanangra in Kanangra-Boyd NP.
I find the 'Handlist of Birds in NSW' (Morris, McGill & Holmes, 1981) is
still a useful resource even now 27 years after it was published!
