In relation to the questions posed about G2 key deposits, Melbourne Water
have advised -
"For all bird watchers who have already paid the $50 key deposit and have a
Western Treatment Plant bird watching permit, they will be able exchange
their G2 key for a new key at their level of access i.e. Level 1 or Level 2.
The plan is for all of these changes and agreed arrangements to be explained
in information that is to be sent out to all permit holders".
Given the comment about the information to be sent out, I suggest that it
would be sensible for birders to now wait until they get the letter before
contacting Melbourne Water about key deposits, induction or anything else
relating to the change. They have limited personnel resources and are
focussed on finalising the content of the letters and the final access
details (in conjunction with the Melbourne Water Biodiversity Conservation
Advisory Committee on which both BOCA and BA have representatives). This
has been a very long process involving delicate balances of goodwill and
communication and with a little more patience, should produce a good outcome
for birders.
