Interesting picture Laurie. It's not uncommon to see patches of white in
the fleurieuensis ssp of Adelaide Rosella although this isn't a regular
feature, but the other colours on your bird are wrong for this ssp. The
back is interesting in being nearly black scallops with white edges (
whereas the fleurieuensis back is blackish with yellow edges) , while
the red head sections are dark enough and reminiscent of the smaller
Crimson, Platycercus elegans melanoptera of Kangaroo Island and very
occasionally near Cape Jervis..
This variation in Rosella plumage is a delight and constant source of
query for visiting birders used only to the regular Eastern States
nominate race.
