Dear all

Why is this "not the right habitat" ? OK most field guides say
coastal/estuarine but Pizzey and Knight include "sewage ponds, freshwater
wetlands".

They look like Common Terns to me. And at my former patch in London
(Hampstead Heath) the species breeds on artificial rafts on freshwater
ponds.

Indeed Sterna hirundo hirundo breeds at freshwater sites throughout much of its
range.

From my quick look at some of the pics I couldn't see anything suggesting
the Hasties Swamp birds are S h h but I was wondering if there is any
evidence that S. h. longipennis is more coastal.
