Hi Tony
Since I'm not on Birding-Aus, I wonder can you post a message with this
info for me:
I've just been talking to the caretaker of the Leanyer Sewerage Works.
He is concerned that in recent times birdwatchers are trying to access
the ponds without authority. Apparently there have been cases where cars
have gone in after a work truck, before the gate closes, and other
instances of 4WDs going around the tracks that have been put in the area
for work trucks. They are apparently non-NT reg vehicles. The *only* way
to have access to the sewerage works is by entering with a person who
has a permit (and many of us are happy to take visitors in when we have
the time). It is preferable to go in the permit-holder's vehicle, since
these are recognised by the caretaker. Alternatively it is sometimes
possible to make a specific arrangement with the operators, the Power
and Water Authority, to make a private visit. Please do not try to
circumvent this. Apart from the obvious legal issues involved, it will
create problems of access for locals who have permits. Thanks Niven.
