Which swamps are being drained? Some time ago the Americans and the ruling
Iraqis announced plans to re-flood the Basra Marshes and as far as I know
this is going to happen if it hasn't already. This was going to be a simple
thing to achieve as it only required removing simple barrages put in place
to prevent annual flood waters enter the extensive Marsh system. If people
are talking about ecotourism to the area now then I suspect the Marshes have
already refilled and Basra Reed Warblers are on the way to rebuilding their
population. Saddam cut off natural water supply to the Basra Marshes because
he gave up trying to control the Marsh Arabs a distinct ethnic group and
decided to destroy their aquatic lifestyle by removing the water.
Cheers Jeff.

With some swamps being drained now and more to happen (presumably) with the
development which will come as stablility comes, how much habitat will be
left?
