Anthea's record today of a King-Parrot in suburban Melbourne reminds me of
something I may have mentioned before.
Almost all the positive or "probable" dated records of King-Parrots (singles or occasionally 2) on our database for Bayside, Melbourne relate to August, September, and October. Further they are almost all in areas with a good supply of mistletoe (berries usually at this time of year). So a speculation is that they are nomadic at this time of year, with mistletoe as an important food source. Any support for, or refutation, of this guess would be very welcome! And isn't speculation one of the really fun parts of birding?
