Hi,

Got an e-mail from friends of mine this morning about this strange behaviour
in Noisy Miners. They had just mulched the garden beds on Thursday and this
happened on Saturday. They are in the lower Blue Mountains of Sydney. Here
is the crux of what they had said.

"All these noisy miners were flying down and "sprawling" in the mulch. At
one stage there were 7!! It was like a sand bath only in the mulch. One
even looked dead lying on its side with its mouth open. When a gust of wind
blew in they would all fly into the trees, only to return a minute or two
later."

See my friend's images here:

Anyone have any insights? Perhaps the birds were bathing or cooling themselves?
I did notice Noisy Miners were panting heavily around my house on Saturday
afternoon. It was about 27-30 degrees Centigrade.

Regards
Akos :)
