Dear all

Just spent 4 days at Murrurundi and drove home yesterday to Gloucester over Barrington Tops National Park, NSW.

Visit Friday 5th Sept out to eastern end of Liverpool Plains - at Swinging Bridges Road, Warrah, patch of remnant vegetation with gums in flower had lots of Musk Lorikeets, Noisy Friarbirds, and nesting White-winged Choughs.

Out in the plains it was quiet but watched song flight displays of several Rufous Songlarks, and a few Cockatiels on the wires along the road. Trouble is with this patch, little vegetation above a foot high and most trees around houses. Weather was wind, rain and bits of sun.

Visit to Quipolly Old and New Dams late arvo same day - very quiet, few ducks, one pair of Shovelers, Great-crested Grebe as usual on the new dam with large numbers of coot and Hoary-headed and Australian Grebes. No blossom in the surrounding gum trees. One Whistling Kite on the old dam.

Paradise Park at Murrurundi Sat 6th Sept - still had flower in the pink ironbarks and good numbers of Scarlet Honeyeaters, and a mass of Greenhood Orchids at the start of the Eye of the Needle track.

Sunday 7th Sept - drove up to Timor to photograph Wallabadah Rock and visit Peter Neville who hosts bird groups on his property, but other than a few Double-banded and Red-browed Finches, and other small birds, and 3 Wedge-tailed Eagles in the distance, again nothing to write home about.

Coming home Monday over Barrington Tops, weather perfect, walked all around Polblue where Parks are finishing off a board walk - no need now to tight-rope the tree trunk across the creek at the far end - a nice easy boardwalk will make walking a doddle but the work is not finished here and we had an interesting time making our way through thick shrubs trying to avoid having to wade. Lots of Flame Robins, and a foraging wombat but not much else.

Had my London son with me so he was delighted at all the common birds and spent a lot of time photographing etc.
