Yesterday, observed one of the local season's currawongs making a
display to another currawong about 20 metres distant from it;
behaviour I would describe if I saw it in a magpie, as juvenile
begging or submissive behaviour. It was silent, head back, wings
slightly ajar and flapping them. However, it's "partner" (if that's
what it was) was doing the same display back! The display lasted
about 30 seconds before first the partner, then the original
currawong flew off (in the same direction).
just to follow up on this, in the place where the second currawong was
observed, a tall jacaranda tree, there is now a conspicuous nest, the
currawongs have been seen tending to it. (there doesn't appear to be a
currawong brooding eggs in it at this point though).
