I've just put about 80 new photographs on the Abberton website
http://www.abberton.org/birds2008.htm - up to date to the end of August at last!
There are a few cuckoos there, some Plumheaded Finches, well a big range of
stuff really.
>From the verandah a couple of days ago, I saw White-faced Heron shaking
>something quite big in its beak. The victim seemed to have two biggish webbed
>feet, and I thought it might be an Australasian Grebe. By the time I got down
>nearer to the action, the appendages had gone and the heron was shaking,
>tossing and dunking a big crayfish, now minus its dangerous big front claws.
I took a sequence of photos of this action, and you can see those along with a
few other September pics in the "holding area" at
http://www.abberton.org/holding.htm - so, I was up to date at the beginning of
this email, and now I'm already behind again!
I guess I'd better just get used to it, it isn't going to change!
By the way, a single Freckled Duck has been at Lake Apex at Gatton for a couple
of weeks. I caught up with it in the late afternoon a couple of days ago, but
the poor light made it impossible to get a decent photograph. I'll try again in
the next few days.
