G'day all

I've just been to see the Painted Finch.  Actually I never saw two birds
together so maybe one was on the nest.  I also managed a few photos
(nothing as good as Dean's).  A couple of times I flushed the bird and it
flew away quite a distance before returning to near the nest.  I think it
was bathing in the creek.  It was fairly approachable but less so than the
Zebra Finches also present.  Some of these came too close to photograph.
Maybe they are escapers as well.

The area might be drought declared but I was surprised that the creek was
flowing, as were several others in the district.  I wouldn't expect many
of the small streams in north central Victoria would have water in them at
the moment.

I reckon the Painted Finch is a stunner.  Probably best seen in the red
rocky gorges of the north though.
