Due to the downturn in the value of sugar returns in recent years
some lowland farming areas have been turned back to cattle grazing
activities in tropical northern Queensland. About five kilometres south
west of Port Douglas this has added another bird friendly habitat to the
immediate area.
On Wednesday 20th August whilst on tour a female Brown Songlark flew
accross the roadway and alighted on a mown area together with Australian
Pipits. From research there appears to be no historical records on the
lowlands this far to the north in the Wet Tropics.
