Hello everyone,
I was talking to Deb Saunders today (SPR co-ordinator) and she told me that the
vast majority of records this season had been from Victoria and Tim's email
certainly backs this up. She also mentioned a good flock having been found
somewhere west of Canberra on the weekend too.
There have been a few records from the Swamp Mahogany forests on the Central /
Hunter coasts recently, including 20 odd birds seen by Greg Little just south
of Swansea last week. Some birds were heard at Woodville, near Maitland, last
week also (not a Swamp Mahogany forest though).
Alan Morris and his Central Coast crew had 5+ Regent Honeyeaters at
Quorrobolong (about 45 mins west of Newcastle, near Cessnock) on Saturday.
I spent all of Sunday trawling the Spotted Gum / Ironbark forests of the Lower
Hunter but despite finding 19 spp. of Honeyeaters for the day, alas no Regents.
It seems that virtually every tree in the Lower Hunter is in heavy bud right
now (and has been for about 6-7 weeks now) so if the blossom happens, it's
gonna be big. Highlights on Sunday were recording Black-chinned Honeyeaters in
3 separate locations (including 6 birds at one site) and I'm certain I heard
Torresian Crows around Quorrobolong too which would be unusual for that area.

Subject: RE: [Birding-Aus] Swift Parrot in NSW & Victoria
Hi All,
An good question re where are all the Swift Parrot in NSW. In sunny Victoria
(actually it's been snowing quite a bit) we've had a reasonable season for
Swift Parrot, particularly central Vic near Castlemaine and Muckleford. Very
few records further north, such as Chiltern and the Warby Ranges. Small numbers
in Melbourne, and also April records around St Arnard & Cape Liptrap in
Gippsland. See below.
Cheers,
Tim Dolby
