Birders,

I meant to add this to my report but forgot all about it. From just
above Victoria Falls to all the way through to Blue Gum there was a
weed that grew in huge stands, like nothing I've seen before.

It had a very strong smell, sort of mentholly I think. Grows in single
stem growths, to up to 2.5-3m high, with big fat singular leaves
alternating up the stem. It might be a grass of sorts; I say this
because the leaves, where they join the stem had a small ring around
the stem, like the way grasses have a central stalk and the blades
poke off left and right. But the rings were narrow, and parallel to
the ground. No flowers were observed, but that doens't mean it doesn't
flower. On the taller examples the leaves on the bottom were observed
to have died and dried up. The leaves were a bit spikey to touch too.
Not that i touched them, I let Steve test it for me.

Any ideas on what it is? If I get the green light I'm going to start a
crusade against it.
