Yes I saw that item on ABC TV news tonight and was also horrified. So many angles did not seem to be covered. 'Asset protection" would seem to be the only, or certainly the primary driving factor. B..(type of insect)....er the environment! 2 summers back, I was horrifying to see HUGE clouds of smoke over grasslands. I was travelling to remnant Native Grasslands around Melbourne - late morning on hot days - to survey for an EPBC listed species with limited mobility, that survives in some of these grasslands. The smoking grasslands were, I presume, being 'prescription burnt'. No doubt all the resident wildlife and non hot fire resistant flora was burnt - killed - too. Wendy |
