The value of a pet may initially have "future owners being watchful as to
where they let their beloved kitties go." but the price of such imports
would certainly drop once the cat sp. became established in the pet trade -
the white cockatiels that the aviculture industry produced in the early
1970's were initially worth more than the equivalent of todays $5-10K (and
they were the subject of avicultural theft!) when first released by the one
breeder - now they available for $15 and regularly escaping to feed the
local peregrine falcons and probably domestic cats.
