Hi Birders,

There was another person who also very deservedly received a gong in the Queens Birthday Honours List. That was Russ Watts, formerly of Barraba and now living in Tintinhull near Tamworth NSW. Russ is the person who started the "Bird Routes Pamphlets" especially for the "Bird Routes of Barraba". This endeavour highlighted the important birding areas of Barraba especially the special place the Barraba District Travelling Stock Routes play in providing a wildlife corridor and preserving bird habitat! The pamphlets and sign posted routes brought extra tourism to the town and highlighted the need to propect the trees of each region. Many towns and shires now have sign-posted birding routes along the lines pioneered by Russ! There was much more beside this and Russ continues on with bird conservation activities and he is associated now with the Tamworth Bird Observers Club.

Good on you Russ!

Alan Morris
