Hi all,
Thanks so much to all those who responded to my query about
'Melbourne Ferals' (and no, I wasn't calling Melbourne birders
ferals, but if that's an appellation you'd like to ascribe to
yourself, then.....).
I was amazed by the number, speed, and helpfulness of the responses,
and it has just reinforced the value of this forum! (though I also
realise it has value far beyond the whims of feral-twitchers)
It seems from most replies that I don't stand much chance of Bulbuls
in Melbourne (I wonder how old the sightings on the Bird-data maps
are?), and will try as we also "pass through" Sydney. We've got a
few good leads for the Thrushes and Tree Sparrows, so hopefully, I'll
be able to get these bogies off my back (how embarrassing, to be
going to all this effort to chase down three ferals). Now it just
remains to get Superb Parrot, Regent and Painted Honeyeaters, Owlet
Nightjars, and a whole suite of others during the trip. We live in
hope!
Thanks again, all, and I shall let the list know how this mad search
unfolds.
Happy birding,
John Tongue
Ulverstone, Tas.
