Bowra, Cunnamulla and Lake Bindegolly 3-6 May 2008 – Flock Bronzewings, Grey
Falcons +++

Steve Murray and I are just back from 3 ½ days birding at Bowra with trips out
around Cunnamulla and Lake Bindegolly.

Highlights:

1000+ Flock Bronzewings 30km n. of Cunnamulla

14 Species of birds-of-prey including 1-2 Black Falcons, 3 Grey Falcons
together at a normal Bowra roost site (amazing views!), 4 Little Eagles and
adult Black-breasted Buzzard.

1000s of woodswallows including 100s of Masked and White-browed.

100s and 100s of Crimson Chats at Bowra and 2 Orange Chats at lake Bindegolly.

Good numbers of honeyeaters including Pied and Black north of Cunnamulla and
Pieds at Lake Bindegolly. White-fronted, Grey-headed and Painted at Bowra.

White-browed Treecreepers at Bowra (3 and 2) and 2 at Eulo.

4 Groups of Chestnut-crowned and 1 group of 5 Halls Babblers.

1 male (singing) Chestnut-breasted Quail-Thrush.

Stunning views of Bourke’s (pair) and Mulga (3 pairs) Parrots. 100s and 100s of
Budgerigars at Bowra.

3 Owlet-nightjars on the road to Cunnamulla and views of Little Buttons Quails
at night down to a few metres. Spotted Nightjars (2) at Bowra.

2 Stubble Quails north of Cunnamulla.

Other interesting stuff – 2 groups of Ground Cuckoo-shrikes, 2 Chirruping
Wedgebills at Lake Bindegolly, a few Crested Bellbirds at Bowra, c10 Pink
Cockatoos at Bowra and 2 at lake Bindegolly. 4 Banded Lapwings in the middle of
Cunnamulla. A few Plum-headed Finches north of Cunnamulla and in Bowra. A few
White-winged Fairy Wrens at Lake Bindegolly, Red-browed Pardelotes and lots of
Thornbills at Bowra – checked lots of Chestnut-rumped but could not find any
Slaty-backed (are they genuinely recorded from Bowra?)

Tens of Thousands of water birds of Lake Bindegolly – even though it’s still
far from full.

Steve has photos of most things including the Flock Bronzewings and Grey
Falcons!

Get to Bowra soon if you want to get some fantastic outback birding!

Kind regardsRob Morris Brisbane, Australia
