Hi Chris, Has your friend ruled out the possibility of a young Crescent Honeyeater? About a decade ago there was a claim of Brown Honeyeater in South Western Victoria. I was down that way and checked it out and came across juvenile Crescents which I must admit I did think looked surprisingly similar to Brown. While one wouldn't expect Crescent or Brown Honeyeater in the Riverland, but Crescents are found closer than Browns and they do demonstrate some winter movement, so they would be more likely, but as we've seen a lot lately, birds can turn up anywhere.
