Hi Stephen,
We used to live there, and even put together a form of 'bird route' leaflet. They used to have it at the Info centre, but that was a few years ago, now, so they probably don't stock them any more. Peter Sommerlad, in Tenterfield, is a great source of local info (ask around for him, or check phone book for his number), but some of the places we found good were as follows:

The TSR by the Highway, just on the southern outskirts of town, the town water supply, just to the south East, Bush around Mt. McKenzie, a bush reserve just across the railway line to the West (on the way to Mt McKenzie), a Bushland reserve(Tenterfield Park) just on the south east of town (off the edge of town streets).

Further afield, any of the Mole River Drives, Bolivia Hill Nature reserve, Hillcrest Dam (on the way to BAld Rock), Various places along the Mt Lindsay Highway, Winfields Creek (in forestry to East - a bit hard to find, but ask around), Basket Swamp, and nearby 'Desert' area, and Woolool Wooloolni, Bald Rock National Park, Boonoo Boonoo National Park, Forestland Forest Drive, Rocky River Drive are all very good. Really, just about anywhere you go driving out of Tenterfield, you'll come across good birding areas!

Hope this brief account might be a little bit helpful. Sorry it's not more specific, but it is some years since we left there.

Cheers.

Hi fellow birders

Just a quickie: I've a few days planned down at Tenterfield next week and would appreciate any info on tick lists or good spots to try in the area.

Good birding to you all, regards

Steven
