Hi Russ

Sorry i missed your post earlier Russ. Very interesting observation. I haven't noticed this variation but probably overlooked it. Now that you have pointed it out, I will have a good look and let you know what i see when i get back there after April 14.

Regards

Ian May

Saw a strange looking juv Tawny-crowned H/E in the coastal heath about 2km
south of The Gardens, Bay of Fires, Tas earlier this month. The bird's whole
face and throat was coloured yellow (in a similair pattern to the black face of
a Black-faced Monarch) rather than just the throat as illustrated in the field
guides.(We didn't think the colouration was caused by pollen)
Has anyone else observed this feature? Any locals (? Ian May) seen this before?.
The next day we saw normal looking Tawnys ,both adult & juv, in the St Helens
Point CA
