Hi Birders,
I refer to John Hammond's report of a Common Noddy on Fingal Beach, northern NSW and would point out that Common Noddies are rare but regular summer visitors to the NSW coastline and have been regularly reported south to Wollongong but there are also records further south. Most records are for late summer, ie January-March possibly reflecting the cyclonic weather that occurs in NSW at that time when the onshore winds draw birds from Norfolk and Lord Howe Island where they breed in large numbers.

Up to 2005 there have been 51 documented sightings of Common Noddies in NSW apart from the breeding populations of Norfolk and Lord Howe Islands.

Another Common Noddy was seen off Narrabeen Beach by Alan McBride on 24/3/08
