Hi Greg,

Ahh - I should have checked that!

The official arachnology world agrees with you:

http://research.amnh.org/entomology/spiders/catalog/NEPHILIDAE.html

pilipes has replaced lots of species! Even the arachnologists can only
keep up to date in their families of specialty.

Nephila were all reclassified in 2006 to a new family, Nephilidae and lots
of revisions made. This is what I meant about the state of flux of spider
taxonomy and why amateurs like me are reluctant to go to species without
an expert on hand. Sometimes I am reluctant to go beyond "Yeah, it's a
spider!"

Stunning spider by any name!

Lynne
