Checked the Eremaea web site for observations of Chiltern birds after Tim
Dolby responded to John Tongue yesterday and found some 'interesting'
sightings reported.
There's a report by Anthony Katon who apparently saw a Bar-tailed Godwit
at Lake Anderson. This site is in the caravan park in Chiltern township.
This species would be new to this areas list (and local naturalists have
never seen one). The record is in Chiltern cell 27743 and appears to have
been there for a month (!?).
I seem to remember that Richard Alcorn made some comments on the list
about checking or accepting such sightings in the last 6 months or so but
cannot remember what his response was. Is any Eremaea data passed onto
the Birds Australia Atlas?
Others may be aware that Bar-tailed Godwits chiefly inhabit coastal
beaches and mudflats but very rarely on inland lakes. None have so far
been recorded from north east Victorian wetlands.
Interested in comments of Chiltern birdos and those who know the area.
cheers, Martin
