Dear All,

Following on from my post on species identification by DNA barcoding, I am attaching links to the Barcode of Life project and of more interest to birders, the All Birds Barcoding Initiative.

These sites will also provide further links for those who would like to pursue this interesting subject in more detail.

Many might think the idea of a handheld DNA barcode reader is a bit pie in the sky. If you had told Astronomers 10-20 years ago that there would be a handheld device, which when pointed at a star or other celestial object, would identify the star and provide a run down on it. they would have said you were mad. There are now two such devices available and they are priced about the same as a pair of mid-range binoculars. So who knows what the next few years will show.

Cheers,

Carl Clifford
