G'day birders, I have a question for the list that I am sure many have had to deal with before.

I am currently planning a trip to the NT as a combined family and birding holiday and have booked a 4WD camper to 2 weeks. The thing is that with any car hire the excess insurance the car hire companies charge per day is ridiculous. Last trip I took out travel insurance and had to actually make a claim (I thought I was set, had insurance), but the buggers got picky and only paid part of the claim..that another story. Not going to use them again.

What I need to know is, has anyone found a reputable travel insurance firm that not only pays the claims it says it will, but more importantly has a level of excess that covers 4wd vehicles which have a much higher level of excess ($7500!!!) and at a cheaper daily rate than the hire company (not hard to do with hire company charges of between 25 to $80 per day).

I'm sure someone will have the answer.

Thanks
Graham Turner
