The Avibase list for "Continental Australia" has some interesting birds on it.
Some of the species listed suggests that it includes the Torres Strait Islands
which I guess is still 'continental'.
But I have some queries if anyone can shed some light...there are many others,
but some examples are:
- why are birds like Watercock and White-breasted Waterhen on the list? Surely
these birds have only been recorded on Christmas Island?
- why is Plain Bush Hen Amaurornis olivacea listed if it only occurs in the
Philippines?
- why are both Clamorous Reed Warbler Acrocephalus stentoreus and Australian
Reed Warbler A. australis listed?
I think it's unusual that Mute Swan is on the NSW list too.
If somebody can explain these I'd be appreciative.
Mick
