Michelle, thought the following resources might be of interest and 
possibly provide further information in relation to your questions.  This 
is not an area I work in but I'm familiar with a few of the documents 
published on these issues in Victoria.

The Department of Sustainability & Environment in Victoria has a series of 
information sheets addressing cockatoo damage to all sorts of things 
including sporting fields - see the link below.

a. Reducing cockatoo damage to trees, fixtures, houses, sports grounds and 
the environment
