Alastair,

Go to Wingan Inlet in Croajingalong National Park. It's well signposted on
the highway from Lakes Entrance to Mallacoota (about an hour before
Mallacoota when heading east).

The road to Wingan Inlet is a narrow dirt track, but easily passable using a
conventional two-wheel drive vehicle. The track is about 20km long. When you
get to the end, park in the day visitors car park. Walk towards the boat
ramp first and keep your eye out for the Satin Bowerbird on its bower to the
right immediately before the boat ramp. Then walk back to the carpark and
along the track alongside the toilets - keep walking - this path eventually
winds up on the beach. You should see Sacred and Azure kingfishers, plenty
of bush birds, maybe a Glossy Black Cockatoo (if you're lucky). On the beach
you should see Hooded Plover without too much difficulty plus various sea
birds.

All the best,

Paul Dodd
Docklands, Melbourne

I am off to Mallacoota (Vic) this weekend and would appreciate any advice on
local birding hotspots.

Many thanks in advance.

Regards

Alastair
