Hi All
Further to Dan M's email yesterday (thanks for the speedy updating Dan!)
Robert D and I went out this morning to G J Fuller's oval and the marsh
behind and found 2 Wood Sands in a mixed flock with Sharp-tailed and
Marsh Sands. They were relatively easy to distinguish, however, for the
birds location this morning a scope was vital. They were feeding about
200 meters away across the water and, although possible to pick them out
with 10X bins, it's not easy, and for a decent view a scope is the way
to go. There is little exposed mud on the viewing side so it's unlikely
they will come that close and the other side is private land. If they
are on the viewing side, they will probably be hidden by the reeds until
flushed so.......
Incidentally for anyone unfamiliar with the spot it is on North Rd,
Wynnum West, UBD map 142, N17, opposite Iona College. Access to the
water is public along the side of the sports field, although I assume
the playing field is considered school property and private. I have
confirmed with Dan - there is no requirement to call the person
mentioned in his email.
I see there are storms predicted Saturday and Sunday nights so if you
want 'em, go now!
Nice bird!
Cheers
Colin
