Jade,
According to Scodde & Mason (1999) The Directory of Australian Birds Passerines
the magpies on Kangaroo Isalnd are in the hybridisation zone of the subspecies
teloneuca and tyrannica (both of which were describe in that text).
They are both white-backed subspecies and the differences would appear to be
size (ty is larger) and width of black tail band (ty is wider).
Hope this helps.
Cheers,

Sub-species> > > Hi All,> > It may sound like a stupid question but after a
recent visit to K.I i was wondering what sub-species of Magpie occurs on
Kangaroo Island in South Australia? Is the sub-species unique or part of a
large population that also occurs on the mainland? I Look forward to any
replies.> <html><DIV>Yours Sincerely</DIV><DIV>Mr Jade Welch</DIV><DIV>Gold
