SATIN BOWERBIRDS IN THE OTWAYS
You get Satin Bowerbirds in several places - even around Lorne where there is
still the right vegetation, such as in the bushier parts on the edge of town.
I've also seen them at Sheoak Picnic Ground (past Allenvale). This is a great
place for birds, especially early in the morning. I've seen Powerful Owl near
the camp ground as well.

There are many Satin Bowerbirds still in the Otways! In some areas they are in
plague proportions! Around our area (near Colac) they do a lot of damage to
Orchards flowers etc, and are considered a pest! Around the towns of Forrest
and Gellibrand they are resident all over the place, and can be found regularly
everywhere.
Try any of the waterfall areas down the Otways.: Lake Elizabeth, Stephenson's
Falls, and the falls behind Apollo Bay . They are supposed to be around the
residential areas of Wye river too (probably only in winter).
Satin Bowerbirds are reasonably common in the Otways. A good place to find them
is at the Sheoak Panic Area (on the Allenvale Rd) a couple of
km behind Lorne.
There are very common around Apollo Bay. Occasionally in the town, but at
Paradise Picnic area and Mariner's Falls walk, both on Barham River Road, there
are plentiful. And both spots are good for a wide range of birds.
If you visit the Sheoak Picnic ground looking for Satin Bowerbirds, you may
also wish to walk on the track towards Phantom Falls to see the Satin
Flycatchers. They are just past the road leading into the picnic ground.
