Hi All
I spent 5 days last week on LEI with ~300 Bridled Terns, ~ 400 Common &
~5000 Black Noddies, ~400 Roseate Terns, ~200 Black-naped Terns and, a
highlight for me, 6 Red-tailed Tropicbirds!!
It was absolutely brilliant and I can only highly recommend any birder
to visit. All the birds mentioned were breeding and presented absolutely
perfect opportunities for photography, in fact getting in each other's
way at times!
Along with these were a few waders, Reef Egrets (~50), Pac Golden Plover
(~40), Ruddy Turnstone (~60), Wandering Tattler (~10), Lesser Sand
Plover (~6), Bar-tailed Godwit (5), Whimbrel (1), both Oystercatcher
sp., Brown Boobies (~5) and Frigatebirds (~30) - also allowing unusually
close approach.
When you get tired of birding (?) there is the snorkelling, some of the
best I have ever seen, off the western side of the island - turtles,
coral and pelagic fish sp, a few reef sharks etc in 30-40 ft of safe
water - if you are a diver the opportunites are apparently extensive,
including Manta Rays and shark sp.
I have no financial interest in the resort, but I felt I had to share
the
experience in a small way and encourage other birders to visit to enjoy
it the way we did!
Cheers
