To answer Terry Pacey's amused query "What's new and why now?", it wasn't all
about Painted Honeyeaters.

Although it's well known that Jandowae holds Painted Honeyeaters (which are
also regular nesters further east at Jondaryan, and have been recorded on the
western edge of Toowoomba), there was an understandable response from
birding-aussers to Dan Mantle's excellent posting about his trip a couple of
weeks ago which detailed sightings of Black Honeyeaters, Pied Honeyeater and
Crimson Chats, among many other species.

These are species that irrupt from their inland ranges only at long intervals,
and are not to be found even at Jandowae as a rule. The last time I saw Black
Honeyeaters on an eastwards irruption was October 1994. Dan's timely advice
alerted many to an opportunity to maybe add some of these new species to their
birding experience and their life lists.

I suggest the excitement was more about the time and location of a significant
birding event, rather than the 'discovery' of a new location.
