It's a hoax; lantern batteries contain four large "F" cells, not AAs.

If you have an old lantern battery, feel free to pull it apart; peel off
the label, and remove the top with a flat-bladed screwdriver (some elbow
grease required.)  Be careful not to short out the cells with the
screwdriver.
