I observed three terns on the 30th September at Jervis Bay NSW
Pictures of the birds can be seen at
http://picasaweb.google.com/bramhall78/Terns
They were hawking around the edge of the beach and occasionally over the trees.
They never dived. They had forked tailed and darker margins to wings in
flight. I had thought they were whiskered tern however the pictures in books
seem to show a much darker breast.
I would appreciate any help that can be given
thanks
Peter
