I have heard of a brolga chick being taken by swamphens, it would have been
not much smaller than a crake.

I've been watching Baillon's Crakes at Mt St Joseph Pond in Altona
(Vic), and I've noticed that they keep well clear of the Purple
Swamphens, running or even flying for cover if one strolls near. So I'm
wondering if they're just being wary of territorial aggression from
these relatively huge birds, or if there's any chance they'd be actually
eaten if caught.
