Just back from a couple of days bird survey at Nearie Lake NR (about 100km
north of Wentworth in SW NSW). Very dry and a nice dust storm (with 5 spots
of rain) last night but a few interesting birds including:
a single 1st year Black-breasted Buzzard (seen all three days and probably
roosting in the reserve)
Redthroats at a number of sites (I am doing some targeted survey for them
but found them at other established bird survey sites as well)
Blue-winged Parrot - a pair of Neophemas (didn't land and no call) flew over
in saltbush country and were assumed to be this species.
No spring migrants at all, but the lake is dry (since about 2000) and very
little rain out here since April.
Cheers,
Peter
