Hi all I heard my first Channel Billed Cuckoo this afternoon at 3.15pm. It called clearly from high eucalyptus trees on the western edge of Engadine, near the edge dropping into the Woronora River. For those who do not live in Sydney, that's a suburb on the southern edge of the city. I also heard my first Koel in Birrong (SW Sydney, just to the north of Bankstown) on Friday 14th September. I suspect it is moving further south. It is much earlier than any other year. usually, in Engadine at least, we hear them first about 24th September.
