G'day all

Yesterday afternoon I spent 15 minutes observing a Brown Goshawk and
a Peregrine Falcon having a first class stoush above Denman Avenue at
Caringbah (Sutherland Shire, Sydney). The Peregrine/s has been a
common sight in the Cronulla-Caringbah area for some years now, but I
have no records for a Brown Goshawk in the area.

The peregrine came from an easterly direction and was alone when I
first detected it. The goshawk came from a southerly direction before
taking on the falcon and presumably lives on a reserve somewhere in
South Caringbah or the Royal National Park.

Incidentally, the Brown Goshawk won the fight with an excellent
legs-outstretched stiking manouver coming down at high speed from
above. This sent feathers flying and the falcon speeding away for an
easier patch to swirl over.

Best wishes

Ricki Coughlan
