Another beautiful day in far NW Victoria so I decided to head back across
the river to check out the lorikeets at the Botanic Gardens that I saw
yesterday. Eventually found two Purple-crowned Lorikeets quietly feeding in
the top of a flowering Lemon-scented Gum. Though common further down the
Murray in SA (they are common in street trees in say Berri) and further
south in Victoria, in NSW they are listed as a threatened species, with very
few records, so I was pleased to track them down (there have been lots of
Musks in Mildura but these are the first time I have found Purple-crowns in
SW NSW). Also feeding in the same trees were:
Red Wattlebird
Singing HE
White-plumed HE
Yellow-plumed HE
Rufous Whistler (at least three males chasing each other around)
A Horsfield's Bronze-cuckoo was also calling (it was there yesterday as
well).
Cheers,
Peter
