Hi all..I have just returned from Bowra Station (QLD's birding Mecca). Bowra
is every bit as good as everyone says but I won't repeat the information
that has been given on previous reports. I would like to say that Lake
Bindegolly (150kms West of Cunnamulla) is a good day trip from Bowra. I was
told not to bother because there was no water. However, there is water and
many birds. It seems dry from the road and unfortunately it is about an
hours walk to reach the lake. (That's from the start of the walking track a
few k's in from the road.don't believe the sign at the picnic table that
says you can't drive in. You can drive about 3kms in until you get to a
gate). You don't see the water until you've been walking for about 45 mins.
You will need a spotting scope to identify ducks which are way out, but in
their hundreds (I left mine at Bowra so I can't report on species). There
are plenty of other birds around. Orange Chats are common in the low growth,
(I couldn't find any at Bowra). Also White-winged Fairy-wrens; 3 majestic
Bustards; Variegated Fairy-wrens; Diamond Doves and other more common
species. Well worth a visit if you don't mind a bit of a hike.
