Hi all
The area is starting to dry out again, with last rain recorded on 9 July
after the much-needed generous falls in June. Very warm weather over the
weekend and alot of bird activity around house and in the nearby forest
and farm/garden areas.
Nest building activity was observed for the following species: Spotted
Pardalote (got some nice pics of the bird collecting bark shreds from
fallen branches about a metre from my feet), Little Wattlebird, Noisy
Miner, Welcome Swallow. Bell Miners are both nest-building and
incubating (in a camelia about 1.5m up and almost against the wall of
the house).
Other sightings mostly in the garden included: Blackbird, Wonga Pigeon,
smaller than usual numbers of Peaceful Dove and Common Bronzewing
(Bar-shouldereds have disappeared at present), Rainbow Lorikeet (good
numbers, uncommon in this area), Brown Falcon, Aust Goshawk, large
numbers of Yellow-faced Honeyeater and Red Wattlebird, Jacky Winter (my
2nd local sighting), several small parties of Yellow-tailed Black
Cockatoo, Restless Flycatcher, Satin Bowerbird, Eastern and Crimson
Rosella, King Parrot, Mistletoebird, Yellow-throated Scrubwren, Brown
Gerygone, Pied Currawong (in larger than usual numbers, appeared to be
moving through). The Yellow-faced HEs, with some White-napeds, appeared
to be heading south along the ridges. Barking Owl was last heard earlier
in the week.
