You're not the only one. I have twice had the same illusion. In 1981 in NT I saw a distant bird perched on a tree and seeing it as an all grey bird of about the right size, I walked towards it through spiky spinifex for at least 10 to 15 minutes. As close as I got, it still looked like an all grey bird of about the right size and eventually shape and no pink on it, so it wasn't a galah. At one time when I thought I would be close enough, on looking up again, it was gone and that was as good a view of the illusion I've had. Another quick view was whilst a passenger in a bus in western Qld. I'm sure it was but could not prove it to myself. Philip |
