Hi Brendan,
Tasmania is pretty easy camping - climate-wise - in Summer, and
relatively easy to pick up our 12 Endemic species, as well as some of
the tougher ones to see on the manland, especially in southern Tas.
I'm up north, but if you get down this way (and across the water),
i'd be happy to give some suggestions.

Hello,
I am headed down to Australia for about 6 months coming this
September and I have a few questions I'd like to ask. Generally my
trip
will follow this itinerary - Sept - Dec I'll be volunteering with
some Satin
Bowerbird research being conducted near Lamington NP. After that
I'll be
attempting to purchase a vehicle and head gradually south (Jan -
Mar. is
open). So basically I am hoping for suggestions for the later half
of my
trip. I think that I would like to find a car near Brisbane and
head a bit
north before going inland and then south (hopefully getting to
Adelaide and
circling back around the coast to Brisbane). I know it'll be
Summer and
very hot and miserable inland but I am willing to endure a lot for
birds and
seeing exciting new places. I am a capable traveler and will
prepare well
so, my major concern is whether people even go inland to say - the
general
vicinity of the Simpson Desert during summer or it that is actually
a crazy
idea?
If there are places that people really think I should visit -
please let me
know. I have been to Australia before (2004) and I visited Sydney
area,
Cairns (Aetherton Tablelands also), Darwin (Kakadu and Katherine), and
briefly Melbourne but this was in July and Aug. I plan to
eventually make
it to Melbourne where I have family and who knows - Tasmania! I am
open to
suggestions but I do know I don't want to muck about too far north
and deal
with Monsoons since I plan to camp almost the entire time.
As far as birds I'd like to see - I have plenty of time so I figure
that
will all be based on what I want to find and spend the time on.
Thanks so
much for any suggestions and help!
