My father has sent me this information regarding the shooting of Regent
Parrots and the related court case.

Update on the Regent Parrot Slaughter in Victoria
The case against the first of the two companies who employed the parrot
shooters was heard in Swan Hill Magistrates? Court on 17th July. A date has
yet to be fixed for the hearing of the case against the second company
Kyndalyn Park, the subsidiary of the other company, Select Harvest, pleaded
guilty to three charges and the fourth charge, of giving false information
to a departmental officer, was withdrawn.
On the major charge of destroy protected wildlife, the company was convicted
and fined $15 000 (out of total maximum of $25,000).
On the second charge of failing to have their shooters listed on the permit,
they were fined $500 and on the final charge of shooting kangaroos with a
shotgun in breach of permit conditions, they were also fined $500.
In addition costs of over $40 000 were awarded against the company
This doesn?t sound much for what they did, but the Department of
Sustainability & Environment is probably going to mount a civil action
against both companies for the loss of the breeding colonies and will be
seeking considerably higher compensation than the penalties awarded in court
yesterday.
